A man who laced treats with sedative and provided them to children at a youth camp in the area has admitted sexual offenses against two boys both nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and one adult experienced illness at the location in the summer month.
The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Yet, he denied one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old child.
Ruben was remanded in custody ahead of a additional proceeding on 28 November.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, prosecuting, detailed Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She said his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer camp which he operated.
Ruben played a "candy game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".
She informed the proceedings Ruben had conducted this practice with the children "repeatedly", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the following morning.
She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had suspicions in July 2025.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "In the summer" his stepchild had suspicions about the activities, with valid cause.
"They resolved" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."
The legal counsel explained objects including infant oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were located, and his stepchild alerted the authorities about his concerns.
She stated the man continued to engage in the "treat game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the following morning.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that point," she added.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, previously told that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the incident.
Mrs Prior explained the minors were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the family member called the authorities once more.
She said Ruben then played the "sweet game" in a room of five minors.
