'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith resumes battle with City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he remembers the dramatic closing stages of Swansea's remarkable turnaround victory against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The encounter wrapped up with Galbraith temporarily wearing a spectator's eyewear amid the pitch-side pile-on.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a powerful effort from outside the box, and the defender immediately hammered in the rebound before charging toward the crowd to revel in the moment, with the crowd mobbing the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The result capped an unbelievable comeback given Swansea had trailed 2-0 during the second half. Amid the delirium, there was some minor mishaps. Galbraith explained, "There was a supporter sort of calling out and Josh Key and I were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're humans, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

The victory earned a next round match at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a club Galbraith ran close at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. The athletic midfielder had arguably the best view when the underdogs took the lead in stunning style, with the attacker's volley from about 45 yards going in via the crossbar and the Stefan Ortega. It seems unfair that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've awarded it to him for having a go from that far out," stated Galbraith, who started in midfield before moving to right defensive wing after the team changed shape. That meant facing off against the England international, with whom he traded tops, and the winger was among the Manchester squad who complimented the way the underdogs approached the match.

Opponent's Class

"Fitness-wise they are exceptional but even the fundamentals and routine actions, they can just perform consistently," the midfielder notes. "It appears that they never miss a pass and they understand how to dictate and take the sting out of a game. You can believe you're doing well and then suddenly they will just deliver a through ball between defenders without you even noticing. You have to be switched on throughout of the game. It requires a resilient mindset and concentration just to remain competitive."

Swansea Move

Swansea sought to acquire Galbraith in January and beat off competition to bring him in in the summer in a significant move. He made a name as a crowd pleaser across a couple of years at Orient and has rapidly achieved similar status in south Wales. At his previous team he reunited with the coach, who earlier gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in professional games on loan at a League One side from Manchester United. Then came a spell at League Two Salford City, before he departed Manchester United.

Growth Journey

"I was probably a somewhat inexperienced going into men's football. I think a lot of players would say under-23s football is completely distinct. Sometimes it appears possession is exchanged without serious challenge. There are limited hard challenges. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adapt rapidly."

Country Call-ups

He has shown that growth for his team and nation, shining for the Green and White Army, who remain in contention for the World Cup next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has started the past five games, including both legs encounters against a football powerhouse. His former international manager, Galbraith's previous international manager, offered the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he manipulates the ball and his knack for a killer pass.

Starting Out

This marks a remarkable path for the player from the Queens Park estate in Glengormley, just outside the capital, who used to see his dad, his father, also a central player, play for a local club.

Manchester United Experience

The player's sole appearance for Manchester United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the Kazakh capital, where they featured on an artificial pitch and the stadium roof was closed owing to conditions of bitter cold. "It was a lengthy journey and it was freezing," he says, grinning. "The week before, several youth players and I practiced as a group, so that assisted our preparation. Just to travel with the first team and get a couple of minutes at the end was incredible."

Leaving United

What was the challenge was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged a teenager? "This turned out quite easy, because I reached the point where I realized I couldn't establish myself at the senior squad. I'm hugely grateful for the time I spent there but it reached a stage where I felt I had to take a different path, drop down the leagues and play professional soccer. Now I'm slowly working my way back up."

Welsh Adaptation

It is mid-afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has an appointment at the early evening: a driving theory test, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Prior to relocating to the local area, the young professional was a regular in Swansea's so-called fun bus, a small coach driven by academy staff, the transport team, which shuttles players to and from practice and games.

"It's myself a teammate, Ronald, the midfielder – a former passenger used to be in it but has started driving. It's pleasant to spend time with the teammates but I'm aiming to be the following person out of the minibus and on the road. Franco enjoys practical jokes; he's frequently playing tricks."

Fan Interactions

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would mix with followers on London's Central line after starting his journey at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
